KOTC: Starbound Recap & Results
At the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM, for King of the Cage: Starbound. A 12-bout professional & amateur Mixed Martial Arts card headlined by Anthony “Iron Man” Rozema vs. Desmond Hill for the interim KOTC Welterweight title.
Rozema (5-1) is on a 2 fight win streak and has 4 of his 5 wins by knock out. Hill (8-4) is a RFA vet with 4 knock outs to his record.
The amateur side of the card also has a championship contest as Raymundo Leon & Chris Brown battle for the vacant Lightweight title.

Recap:
Fight 1 130 lbs. Guadalupe Monroy vs. Ozzy Chavez. Chavez controlled the action in R1 with body kicks and straight punches. Monroy with a swollen left eye came hard in the R2 but ate ground and pound after pulling guard. Getting hurt by a right uppercut Monroy scored a takedown but was then swept. When the judges decision came in it was unanimously for Chavez.
Fight 2 at 135 lbs. Ricardo Maynez vs. Josiah Reyes. Maynez landed a pair of hard right superman punches, Reyes scores a reactive takedown, progressed to mount while scoring in R1. R2 Reyes again took the fight to the ground had top control, Maynez got back to his didn’t really score but a few leg kicks. Reyes in R3 another big double leg. Maynez worked back to his feet land a good body and hard right, before the final bell. The judges face the striking with the split decision going to Maynez.
Fight 3 at 175 lbs. Deron Handerson vs. Manny Garcia. They immediately engage and start exchanging, Garcia slipping punches landing his right hurts Henderson several times and ends the fight with a right uppercut.
Fight 4 at 145 lbs. Shawn Montoya vs Sam Martin. Martin looking to land his kick and fight a technical battle but in R1 Montoya stay in Martins face firing left hands and looking for single leg takedowns. Martin found found a home for his left kick, but when he felt the momentum changing Montoya upped the pressure, made the fight a brawl landing his left repeatedly. The 3rd was more of the same with Montoya winning the in close brawl with his left hand. After 3 rounds the judges scored the fight in favor of Shawn Montoya by split decision.
*Fight 5 is a pro bout with Cassie Robb vs Jayme Hinshaw at 105 lbs. into the clinch they go in R1 Hinshaw with two takedowns each time having to fight out of a armbar. Hinshaw once on bottom did the same. Hinshaw end round on top pair off good elbows . R2 they right away clinch Hinshaw fires a knee to the body Robb goes flying armbar. Hinshaw would escapes. Robb then starts to out scramble Hinshaw twice getting to o mount and the 2nd time punches and elbowed to victory.
Fight 6 back to the amateurs after the women’s professional feature that had to happen because of its advertised as live on Facebook at a certain time. Alex Jones vs. Francisco Dominguez At 125 lbs. R1 Jones punches and kicked his way into the clinch putting Dominguez on the cage and used his knees and punches to score but twice did foul with low blows. R2 Jones pushed into the clinch working his hands and knees, beating Dominguez with volume. R3 Jones won the 1st 2 minutes grinding Dominguez against the cage. In the final minute Dominguez went for a guillotine and triangle choke but he see the judges score cards. The Bout is scored a split decision in favor of Alex Jones.
Fight 7 is our featured amateur contest for the vacant KOTC 155 title with Raymundo Leon vs. Chris Brown. Brown with immediate takedown to mount. Action is stopped and Brown is deducted a point for grabbing the fence. action restarts Leon stuffed on a diving takedown, eats a few punches. Brown then lands a right overhand dropping Leon. the fight is stopped with Leon bleeding from forehead band under left cheek. New KOTC amateur Lightweight champion chris brown.
Fight 8 at 185 lbs. Bill Albretch vs Mario Ramos. Albrecht started off with teep kicks, then started to work his jab hook combination. A left hooks knocks down Ramos, Albrecht followed to the ground and pounds out Ramos.
Fight 9 at 155 lbs. Kasey Yates vs Sherwin Price. 2 low kick and 2 body kick from Price, he then shoots in completes a takedown to side control with Yates open side against fence. Price then puts knee on belly pounds to finish.
Fight 10 at 145 lbs. Jess Martinez vs. David Maldonado. Martinez quickly punches his way to a takedown and ground an pounded Maldonado from every position, 10-8 rd. Martinez throws a 3 punch combo eats a counter right, shoots a double leg takedown to half guard pounds to victory.
Fight 11 is the co-main event at 140 lbs. with Nick Gonzalez against Kevin Wirth. Wirth with a nice two and jab, looking to have a foot speed advantage. Twice Gonzalez landed a hard right, matching the two quick takedowns Wirth scoredinbtje opening frame. R2 was a repeat. R3 Wirth tagged shoots in on a takedown Gonzalez guillotine, Wirth escapes. Wirth shuffling his feet jabing. Wirth jabbed and used his movements to keep the fight at long distance and get the decision win.
Fight 12 the interim 170 title main event with Desmond Hill vs Anthony Rozema. Rozema started off attacking Hill’s front leg. Hill then shot in scoring a quick takedown. Rozema stood up turned Hill to the cage opened with Knee and elbows. Rozema looking for the hooks eats a left hook to the liver, goes to a knee and after a few follow up punches the ref jumps in .
