A Heavyweight rematch between MMA vets is the newest addition to May’s Bellator 200.
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (36-11-2) and Roy “Big Country” Nelson (23-15) first encounter came back at UFC 137 in October of 2011. Nelson won by 3rd round TKO.
Bellator 200 is May 25 at the SSR Arena, in Wemey, London, England.
The loss was the 3rd straight for the Croatian, who has since had a resurgence winning 9 of 10 and 8 straight. All 9 wins have been finishes, 7 knockouts, 2 submissions, and 5 ending in the 1st round, including his last 3 wins. The now 43 year old, even scored a 2nd round TKO of “King Mo” in the 2nd round of the Rizin 2016 World Grand Prix. Filipovic has 33 finishes 28 are knockouts.
Nelson 41, is 6-8 since that win at UFC 137. Nelson looks to rebound from a majority decision loss to Matt Mitrione at Bellator 194. That bout saw Mitrione use his speed and a divorce striking attack to win the first 2 rounds. In the 3rd Nelson would score a takedown and trap Mitrione in a mounted crucifix almost forcing the ref to jump in from unanswered strikes. The late effort would earn a 10-8 on one judges score card, that judge seeing the fight a draw, giving us the majority decision. Nelson has 19 finishes, 14 knockouts, but hasn’t finished a fight since 2014.
