9 fights official for UFC 228 including Monatano vs. Shevchenko
Nicco Montano’s first title defense as expected will be against Valentina Schevckenko and will be part of the UFC’s return to Texas in September.
All healed up from a couple of surgeries Montano, will head into her first defense as the betting underdog. The Fit NHB fighter and former KOTC champion, is used to the underdog role playing it every step of the way to winning the inaugural Women’s UFC Flyweight title. To refresh, Montano won the title by unanimous decision over Roxanne Modafferi, this past December. Schevchenko a former title challenger up at 135, went 3-2 in the division, both losses coming by decision to current champion Amanda Nunes, before going to Flyweight in February submitting Priscila Cachoeira.
The card includes quite a few ranked match-up’s, at Featherweight number 14 ranked Zabit Magomedsharipov faces number 15 Yair Rodriguez, at Bantamweight number 5 Jimmie Rivera meets TUF 14 winner, number 7 John Dodson, also number 8 Aljamain Sterling vs number 10 Cody Stamann. In the women’s strawweight division number 2 ranked Jessica Andrade clashes with number 4 Karolina Kowalkiewicz & former champion number 6 ranked Carla Esparz collides with TUF 23 winner, number 9 Tatianna Suarez.
UFC 228 is scheduled for September 8 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
