Two Title Fights Set for UFC 239
International Fight Week is one f the biggest weeks of each year for the UFC. The promotion has several times attempted to make a spectacular card for the week, only to see incredible circumstances alter their plans. UFC 239 for the 2019 International Fight week has only three fights announced but is already shaping up to be a blockbuster.
The main event will see Jon “Bones” Jones (24-1) defending the UFC Light Heavyweight tile against Brazil’s Thiago “Marreta” Santos (21-6). Since returning from suspension, Jones has won two fights in four months, knocking out Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232, to take claim of the title Daniel Cormier vacated, and defended it at UFC 235, defeating Anthony Smith by unanimous decision. Santos is on a four-fight win streak and has won three straight since moving up from Middleweight to Light Heavyweight. In his last two outings “Marreta” has scored TKO’s of top ten ranked opposition Jimi Manuwa & Jan Blachowicz.
The co-main event will see UFC Women’s two division champion Amanda “Lioness” Nunes defending her Bantamweight strap against former champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm. Nunes ran her current win streak to eight at UFC 232, doing what most thought was impossible, knocking out Cris “Cyborg” to her her second UFC belt. “The Brazilian will be looking for her forth successful defense of the 135 lbs. title. Holm also knows what its like to shock the world, like she did at UFC 193 dethroning Ronda Rousey. “The Preacher’s Daughter” has won two of her last three fight, knocking out Bethe Correia by with a head kick & handing Featherweight Megan Anderson her first professional loss, by decision ay UFC 225.
Earlier this week it was announce that former Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold would be moving up to Light Heavyweight and welcoming him to the division will be Jan Blachowicz. UFC 239 is July 6th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
