“El Toro” now faces “No Mercy” at LFA 72 (updated)
After several days in limbo Anthony Birchak has a new opponent for the LFA 72 main event.
Replacing Nohelin Hernandez, who took a short notice call up to compete at UFC 239, will be Raphael “No Mercy” Montini (6-2). Montini has fought for the promotion once, being stopped by Mario Bautista at LFA 31. “No Mercy” has rebounded with 3 consecutive victories on he Arizona regional scene. The last 2 have come by submission, an arm triangle choke of Jesse Orta & a guillotine choke of JT Wells.
Birchak (14-6) is a former MFC champion, who went 2-2 in a 4-fight stint in the UFC. After 3-fights for Rizin FF in Japan, “El Toro” returned to the Valley of the Sun, scoring a 0:51 knockout of Adam Martinez, in the main event of Comate 26. The Arizona native and owner of El Toro MMA/ 10th planet Jiu Jitsu Tucson native has 79% of his wins by stoppage, 6 of the 11 by submission.
LFA 72 takes place July 26th at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. Anthony Birchak vs. Raphael Montini is be the co-main event. Elevated to the main event is the middleweight match-up between BJJ Black Belt Daniel Madrid & highly regarded prospect Chris Harris.
