This thanksgiving day 2019 Dana White has announced Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone & the “Notorious” Conor McGregor will battle in the main event of UFC 246.
UFC 246 is January 18th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
An interesting note to the bout is that it’s set for the welterweight division (170 lbs.) Both have fought at welterweight. McGregor is 1-1 in the division after a pair of fights with Nate Diaz. Cerrone went 6-4, competing at welterweight for almost three years from the beginning of 2016 to the end of 2018.
More recently both men had been competing at lightweight. McGregor (21-5) is a former UFC champion at lightweight & featherweight (145 lbs.). The Irishman had fought his last two bouts inside the octagon at lightweight. Winning the UFC title by knocking out Eddie Alavarez. And after being stripped for inactivity. McGregor failed to regain the title, getting submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. Cerrone (36-13) has been back at lightweight for his last four fights. Cerrone stopped Alexander Hernandez in January and won a decision over Al Iaquinta in May. The owner of the BMF Ranch will look to get back in the win column following losses to Tony Ferguson & Justin Gaethje.
This will be the first scheduled non title bout to headline a UFC pay per view event, since UFC 202. When Conor McGregor fought Nate Diaz for the second time.
