Resetting the Bellator Bantamweight World Grand Prix

This year the Bellator World Grand Prix will focus on the promotion’s deepest division, Bantamweight. But even before the tournament could get going there’s been some major changes to the field.

It had been announced that the quarterfinals would begin at Bellator 279 on April 23rd in Hawaii. Current champion Sergio Pettis would face his teammate Raufeon Stots & former champion Kyoji Horiguchi meeting Patchy Mix. The later is still in tack but Sergio Pettis is out for the foreseeable future due to an undisclosed injury. Former champion Juan Archuleta, who was dethroned by Pettis will jump in to face Stots for an interim title.

News has also come down that Irishman James Gallagher has also been forced out of the Grand Prix due to injury. It’s now been announced that tournament alternate Josh Hill will have to earn that spot again by facing Enrque Barzola at Bellator 278. April 22nd in Hawaii. The winner will face Magomed Magomedov in a quarterfinal later in the year. For the other available slot unbeaten Jornel Lugo will square off with former Titan FC champion Danny Sabatello. The winner will go on to fight Leandro Higo in the quarterfinal round.
