Velasquez-Carmouche Title Fight Headlines Bellator 278
Bellator had already announced they’d be heading back to the Hawaii in April, but that announcement has been expanded upon.
Bellator MMA has announced a second show for their trip back to the islands. In addition to Bellator 279 on April 23rd at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu Bellator 278 will take place April 22nd in the same venue.
The main event will see unbeaten women’s Flyweight champion Juliana Velasquez defending against number two ranked contender Lis Carmouche. Brazil’s Velasquez dethroned inaugural flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane by unanimous decision at Bellator 254. This past July the Brazilian racked up her first defense taking a split decision from Denise Kielholtz. San Diego’s Carmouche has challenged for the title in Strikeforce & the UFC. The “Girl-Rilla” has won all three of her fights in Bellator including submitting DeAnna Bennett & stopping Kana Watanabe with strikes.
The card will also see a pair of bout to gain entrance to the Bellator World Grand Prix as Jornel Lugo faces Danny Sabatello & Enrique Barzola squares off with Josh Hill.
