Whittaker vs Costa & Garry vs Neal rebooked for UFC 298
A pair of ranked matchups have made their way onto the UFC 298 card.
UFC 298 is February 17th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Former Middleweight champion, number three ranked Robert Whitaker will face number six ranked, Paulo Costa. And at Welterweight number eight ranked Geoff Neal and number ten ranked Ian Garry will battle in a bout originally scheduled for UFC 292 this past August. The rebooking had been announced for UFC 299 but will happen at UFC 298.
Whitaker versus Costa had been scheduled to happen in 2021 but illness forced Costa to withdraw. “The Reaper” looks to rebound from a knockout loss to Dricus Du Plessi at UFC 290. Costa last fought at UFC 279, defeating Luke Rockhold by unanimous decision.
Pneumonia stopped Ian Gary from fighting Vicente Luque at UFC 296. After attempts to rebook the matchup failed the UFC went back to this bit of unfinished business. Back in August Ian Garry wore a t-shirt featuring Geoff Neal’s mug shot following an arrest for allegedly driving, while intoxicated. Gary remained on the UFC 292 card, defeating Neil Magny in a one-sided fight. Geoff Neal is a power puncher with six of his eight wins in the octagon by knockout.
