Gennrich Submits Jones wins Lightweight title at LFA 174

Legacy Fighting Alliance kick off 2024 at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota is host to LFA 174. The 14-fight card features the LFA Lightweight Championship on the line.

Lightweight champion JaCobi Jones came in 0.2 lbs. over the weight limit leaving the title on the scale creating a very interesting scenario. Jefferson Nascimento currently holds an interim title he won while Jones was preparing for an opportunity on the Contender Series. A victory for JaCobi Jones will make Jefferson Nasimento the undisputed champion. A Kegan Gennrich win will make him the undisputed champion and Nascimento will still be interim champ awaiting a title unification bout.

A relentless effort earns Kegan Gennrich the LFA Lightweight title. Gennrich won the title by submitting JaCobi Jones just over two minutes into the fifth round. Jones was on his bike early landing 20 kicks in the first round. In the second & third rounds Gennrich would escape Jones’s guillotine attempts. Gennrich would show his submission offense twice locking in arm-triangle chokes. Jones’s attempt to take Gennrich’s back in the fourth would see Gennrich have his biggest round nearly having an arm-triangle and dropping down strikes from mount as the horn sounded. The fourth round of Gennrich on top of Jones drains the gas tank as a fourth arm-triangle attempt secures the championship.

The very first punch Quan Le threw in the co-main event sent Cody Peterson’s mouthpiece flying across the octagon. Le never let his foot off the gas forcing Peterson to crumble from a left high kick 65 seconds into the bout.

Going low, low, and then high worked wonders for Wes Schultz knocking down Maurice Morris with a left high kick. Schultz followed to the ground trapping Morris’s arm, punching till the ref jumped in.

The lone main card fight to need judges input saw Adams Isah sweep the cards against the much more experienced Devante Sewell. Even with four times as many professional fights Sewell had no answer for Isah’s mix of heavy kicks and savy takedowns.

Jayde Sheely immediately took Kendra McIntyre to the mat. McIntrye’s attempt to stand up led to having her back taken. Sheely transitioned to the armbar as McIntyre attempted another escape losing all composer McIntyre lands two illegal kicks to Sheely’s face causing a disqualification.

In the main card opener at Heavyweight Steven Asplund earned his second professional win as the doctor stopped his fight with Billy Ray Valdez with 12 seconds left in the first round. Asplund stalked Valdez around the cage showing off his full Muay Thai game landing big kicks to the body and legs. Asplund managed to avoid the Valdez over hands and stuffing the takedown attempts while opening up a cut over Valdez’s right eye forcing the stoppage.
