UFC 300 Results, Pereira put Exclamation Point on Epic Night

The T-mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada host UFC 300. The 13-fight card features three championship contests.

In the main event Alex Pereira, one of the most decorated kickboxers to cross over to MMA, defends the UFC Light-Heavyweight title against former champion Jamahal Hill, who only lost the title due to injury.  China’s Weili Zhang looks for a second successful defense of her second title reign when she defends the UFC Strawweight Championship against fellow countrywoman Xiaonan Yan. Plus, Justin Gaethje one of the most entertaining fighters in the world puts the BMF title on the line against one of the greatest featherweights of all time Max “Blessed” Holloway.

The epic event started out with Deiveson Figueiredo submitting Cody Garbrandt. The former Bantamweight Champion looks right at home at 135 lbs. Garbrandt started the fight off well utilizing his speed advantage. A late takedown in the first round provided Figueiredo his blueprint for the second round. A Figueiredo takedown to mount forced Garbrandt to fend off a hear an arm choke. Escaping the submission Garbrandt would attempt to explode out his back taken. Figueiredo sinking in a rear naked choke finish.

That’s two wins in a row over highly regarded competition since coming up to Bantamweight for the former flyweight Champion who called his shot for title fight.

Jim Miller was the first fighter to sign the canvas with his blood. Bobby Geen walking Miller down from the start. Miller had his moment in the first as an overhand right scored a knockdown. Green came back in the second cutting Miller open under his right eye and that eye into a swollen mess by the end of the round. Green forced Miller to trade in the pocket getting the better of the majority of the exchanges.  The savvy vet Miller snuck in a right-hand forcing Green to clinch to clear the cobwebs. Green separated and got back to his combinations. Following a stunned Miller to the fence Green end the fight in half guard after blaming Miller to the ground.

Green took advantage of the mic time to call out Pady Pimblett for a summer meeting in the UK.

Former strawweighg champion Jessica Andrade made it two wins in a row defeating fellow Brazilian Marina Rodriguez by split decision. Andrade got Rodriguez on her back in the first round. The second and third rounds saw Andrade stalking down Rodriguez firing off powerful hooks while Rodriguez look to stick in counters while skirting the fence.

Jailin Turner almost scored an epic walk off knockout win. A straight left from Turner sent Renato Moicano crashing to the ground but Herb Dean didn’t jump in. Moican survived tongetvtobthe second round. Getting into the clinch Micano dragged Turner down advanced to mount and punched his way to the comeback andbthird consecutivewin.

Diego Lopes was already the hottest name in the featherweight division and come next week he’ll be in the rankings. A Sharpe right left combination from Lopes hurt the number 13 ranked Sodiq Yusuff.  Yusuff recovered but not for long as another clubbing right put Yusuff back on the ground. Lopes took Yusuff’s back Punches his way to the first-round finish.

The highly anticipated octagon debut of Kayla Harrison was made in impressive fashion. Harrison pinned Holm on her back for half of the first round.  A bulldozing blast double leg put Holm back on her back. Attempting to Bluetooth up Harrison took Holm’s back finishing by rear naked choke. Harrison made no bones about it by the end of the year she plans to be the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion of the world.

Many wondered if former Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling would be able to implement his game moving up to to Featherweight. The answer is a resounding yes. Sterling was able to close the distance and take Calvin Kattar to the ground eight times racking up nearly eleven minutes of control time and landing one hybrid power bomb – piledriver, I’ll call the Sterling driver.

Former Light-Heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka may not be far from another shit at the title after stopping Aleksandar Rakic in the second round. Prochazka believing in his power forced Rakic into exchanging in the pocket. A sharpe right hand sending Rakic into treat. Prochazka tripping Rakic to the ground. Prochazka finishing the fight with strikes as hes climbing up Rakic back. Prochazka said his sights are set on the winner of tonight’s main event. Middleweight Super prospect Bo Nickal was pushed further than he had been in his previous five fights and comes out of it still undefeated. Codyvl Brundage brought the fight right to Nickal looking to force the striking. Nickal turned to his wrestling and after ending the first round on Brundage’s back Nickal got back tobthe same position securing the rear naked choke in the second round.

Number 4 ranked Arman Tsarukyan took a huge step towards earning his first title shot defeating former champion Charles Oliveira by split decision. Tsarukyan surviving deep guillotines choke in the first. Tsarukyan in the second in half guard landing elbows busting Oliveira open in his hair line. Tsarukyan pushing the pace in the third. A takedown had Tsarukyan on top cruising to the decision before locked in a D’Arce choke pushing everyone to the edge of their seats for the lightweight.

What took so long for Max Holloway to move up to lightweight. The former featherweight champion put on one of the must spectacular performances of his career.  Justin Gaethje brought out his old leg kicks. Once Holloway got a beat on them his speed advantage took over. Holloway shattering Gaethje’s nosw with a spinning back kick in the final seconds of the first round. Volume punching and allusive footwork saw Holloway navigate the middle part of the fight. Gaethje like a BMF wouldn’t go away quietly. A right hand on the temple having Holloweay in trouble as the round concluded. With a victory on the cards looking like a sure thing Holloway took the legendary route pointing down, challenging Gaethje to a brawl in the final ten seconds. A choice that would see Holloway put Gaethje out cold by a right hook with just 2 seconds left on the clock. Weili Zhang added a second successful title defense to her resume. It didn’t come without a couple of scares. The sneaky rightbhand of Yan Xiaonan forcing Weili Zhang to turn to her grappling. Zhang on the back had the rear naked in and Xiaonan was on the verge of going to sleep as the horn sounded. Xiaonan battled back knocking down Zhang twice in the third round. The champion held strong and got back to her wrestling grind out the final ten minutes.

The UFC is used to creating stars, unforgettable moments, but Alex Pereira has the sport by storm like no one ever has. A two-division champion in Kickboxing, Perreira debuted in the octagon in November of 2021. In less than three years “Potan” as he’s nicknamed has won the UFC Middleweight Championship & the Light-Heavyweight title.  The next box to check came tonight as Pereira successfully defended the title. Pereira landed his trademark left hook barely grazing but dropping Jamhal Hill. Ground and pound from Pereira rendering Hill unconscious. And after the fight Alex Pereira was wrapped in his newly earned black belt by his coaching staff.
