Diamond Boys Next Big Fight Being Announced Tuesday
Wrecking Crew Promotions will be hosting a press conference this week to announce details for their sophomore event.
This Tuesday at 2pm MT at Cocina Azul 5916 Holly Ave Ne, near Paseo Del Norte, Wrecking Crew Promotions will formally announce “Hecho en Nuevo México Fight Night” at Villa Hispana at Expo New Mexico.
The card will feature the next step in the promising career of New Mexico made pugilist Matthew “Diamond Boy” Griego. The Duke City native is a husband, father, & barber who’s been compared to legendary world champion Johnny Tapia since a young age. Griego has handled the pressure of such an immense comparison by winning his thirteen consecutive fights as a professional.
In 2020 Griego was coming into his own winning his first professional title, an ABF intercontinental title. A week later the pandemic hit and slowed down everything. Griego took the opportunity to broaden his horizons and train in Las Vegas. The additional skills were on display as Griego won a lopsided decision over battle tested vet Gilbert Mendoza in last June. In February at the first Wrecking Crew Promotions event the 27-year-old brought down the house as he scored the ninth knockout of win of his career in the nights main event.
This Tuesday we’ll find out what the next step forwards world title contention looks like for a talent long thought to be capable of continuing the states rich history in boxing that includes world champions Bob Foster, Danny Romero, Johnny Tapia, Holly Holm, Angelo Leo, & Brian Mendoza.
