3 Title Bouts in Place for UFC 251 on Fight Island
The location is known the fights are being announced. Fight Island is real and the first event will have three title fights.
It was first reported by Combate and has been confirmed by UFC president Dana White, Fight Island is Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The island will host UFC 251 on July 11th and a trio of Fight Night on July 15th, 18th, & 25th.
Alexander Volkanovski defends the UFC featherweight title against Max Holloway who he took the title from in December. The decision win adds up to the Australian being on an incredible 18-fight win streak, while the loss was Holloway’s first at 145 lbs. in six years.
Teammates will battle for the welterweight title as Gilbert Burns challenges Kamaru Usman. Burns is on a six-fight win streak. The UFC has put on six events during the Covid-19 pandemic thus far. Burns has won twice a TKO of Demian Maia & a decision win over Tyron Woodley. Usman is on a 15-fight win streak coming off his first successful title defense. A TKO of Colby Covington in December.
The final title fight has former featherweight champion Jose Aldo squaring off with number three ranked contender Petr Yan for the vacant bantamweight title. UFC 251 had originally been scheduled for Brazil in May. At that time Aldo was to challenge then champion Henry Cejudo for the championship belt. The Covid-19 pandemic cancelled the event. Cejudo instead fought and beat Dominick Cruz in May. Cejudo then retired vacating the title. Yan is on a 9-fight win streak that includes being 6-0 inside the octagon.
