UFC’s August 1 Fight Night headlined by Holm vs. Aldana
The next title challenger for Amanda Nunes’s bantamweight title could be decided by the winner August 1st’s main event.
Former champion Holly Holm looks to position herself for another title shot when she faces number five ranked contender Irene Aldana. In January, Holm the number two ranked contender won a unanimous decision over raquel Pennington. Aldana has won five of her last six fights, coming off knocking out previously unbeaten Ketlen Veira at UFC 245.
In the middleweight division number eight ranked contender Derek Brunson faces number nine Edmen Shahbazyan. Brunson has won back to back decisions over Elias Thodorou & Ian Heinisch. Shahbazyan is a top prospect whose yet to taste defeat. In his last three fights “The Golden Boy” has stopped stopped Charles Byrd, submitted Jack Marshman, and knocked out Brad Tavares. THe fight is scheduled for the third time after not happening in March & April.
Also at 185 lbs. TUF 23 Alumni, Eric Spicely will tangle with former LFA champion MArku Perez. Spicely comes in with finishes in 10 of his 12 wins, with six by submission; while Perez has six of his nine finishes by submission.
The August 1st UFC Fight Night event is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
